What happens between asking and putting the groceries away

Every trip moves through the same stages, and you can see which one you are in at any moment. Nothing about the money is hidden at the end of it.

  1. You send a request

Describe the trip in your own words, or build a list line by line. Pick a store or leave it to your shopper, choose a delivery window, and set a budget if you want a ceiling. Everything except "what do you need" has a sensible default you can skip past.

  2. We schedule it

The office confirms the window and offers the trip to a shopper — your preferred shopper when they are working, your backup when they are not.

  3. Your shopper accepts

This is when you are told who is coming. They see the job with your household memory attached: brands, sizes, store stances, substitution rules and the note about the side door. If they cannot take it, it goes back to the office and is offered to somebody else rather than quietly slipping.

  4. They shop

You can watch the list fill in: found, substituted, unavailable. If something needs a decision, they message you from the aisle. You can add a forgotten item right up until they reach the till.

  5. Checkout

The merchandise total is entered from the receipt, and the receipt is photographed and attached — one per store when the trip covers several. Service fee and mileage are calculated from the published rates below, and each is a separate line on what you are charged.

  6. On the way, then delivered

You see when they leave the store and when the delivery is done, handled the way your address instructions say to handle it.

  7. Completed

The trip closes and the totals are locked — after that nobody, including us, can quietly edit what you were charged. The order stays in your history, and repeating it takes two taps.

Pay as you go is our standard rate and the one a new household starts on. A household on an older or negotiated rate keeps it, and whichever rate applies is the one shown on that household’s own orders. We do not mark up the groceries.

Common questions

Do I get the same shopper every time?

That is the whole idea. You choose a preferred shopper and a backup, and we send your preferred shopper whenever they are working. You can change either one at any time.

What if the store is out of something?

It follows the rule you set for that item. "Substitute freely" means they use their judgement, "same brand only" narrows it, "ask first" gets you a message, and "never" means the item simply comes back unbought.

Do I have to be home?

No. Your address carries your own delivery instructions — call on arrival, do not ring the bell, cold things in the garage fridge — and that is what the drop-off follows. Nobody comes into the house.

Can I order for my mother?

Yes. The person who pays and the person who receives the delivery are separate people in our system, and the person at the door does not need an account, an app, or a smartphone.

How do I pay?

After the trip, not at the door. A card on file is charged once the receipts are recorded, or you can settle by check, cash or Venmo instead — some households have never touched the card side of this at all.

Is there an app?

The site works as an app on a phone: open it in your browser and add it to your home screen, and it behaves like any other installed app.

Where do you go?

Des Moines. If your town is not on that list, ask anyway — if you are close we will usually say yes, and if we cannot get to you we will say so rather than take the booking.
